The project solves serious (environmental and public health) problems in Kazakhstan related to untreated sewage sludge:
Accumulation of uncleaned sludge: Most sewage treatment plants (hereinafter referred to as CBS) store sludge in open fields without treatment, which leads to contamination.
Air pollution and odor: Emissions of methane and hydrogen sulfide cause persistent unpleasant odors.
Soil and water pollution: Leaching of heavy metals and pathogens worsens the condition of the land and threatens groundwater.
Risks to public health: Increases the number of airborne and waterborne diseases due to poor sanitation.
Infrastructure failure: More than 90% of wastewater treatment plants are outdated; the construction of new processing plants requires significant financial investments.
